What: Veneer Workshop - Painting with Wood

When: 20th fo August // from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Painting with wood? yes! you've read it right! There are many types of wood that can be veneered to make a number of beautiful things: chess boards, tables, furnitures or just turn them into paintings and hang them on the walls. Let your imagination go wild and learn how to design your own marquetry veneer, while practicing a new hobby!

Sounds good, right? But in case you're wondering what a marquetry veneer even is, take a look at the pictures below. A veneer is a piece of natural wood that can be from 0,6 mm up to 3mm thick and you can stack it up and create beautiful chess boards, cabinet doors or original designs.

COURSE CONTENT:

In this Workshop you will learn how to create a design, glue it into the board and finish with wax. You can work on a free design and let your imagination flow; but you can also choose from several pre-made options or even bring your own design!

You can create your piece in a variety of sizes depending on skill level, timeframe and choice of your design. It's a great woodworking skill and can be applied to any surface you may later produce.

However, If you don't feel creative and want some guidance, you can make a chess board, a simple square design that will teach you the basics on how to work with the material. (important: your design needs to consist of straight lines, during the session we will look at the design to see how to make it happen!)

In this workshop you will get familiar with:

• Different cutting tools like blade knife and cutter for wood
• Designing and precisely placing all the pieces together to make a beautiful composition
• You will get to know different types of veneers and get to experience their differences in behaviour
• Gluing the final piece sanding it and finishing with oil

The workshop is suitable for beginners as well as intermediate woodshop masters. Anybody that has curiosity on learning to work with a new material.

WORKSHOP HOLDERS

Lluis Mateu, a woodworking enthusiast who has more than 25 years of experience.

He has built everything from wooden houses and furniture to sets for theatre and cinema productions. He has a deep passion for the craft and loves to teach people all the tricks he's learned throughout the years.

"Today many people spend most of their time in front of a computer screen, it is a great tool indeed, but slowly we are losing the capacity of making things with our hands.

With all the years I have been working with wood, I still find satisfying to make a new piece, seeing it taking shape, feeling the quality of the material, see its color coming out after waxing/oiling it, I love it!

MATERIALS INCLUDED

You need to have materials to work with, so you will get from us a kit with everything you need to get started.

You can take with you all the Veneer boards you can make. Of course it depends on how fast/good you are!
