Die erste Ausgabe des Asian Performing Artists Labs (APAL) ist eine Plattform und ein Laboratorium für Künstler*innen mit asiatischem Hintergrund. Nach intensiver Zusammenarbeit im Rahmen einer viertägigen Residenz präsentieren die beteiligten Künstler*innen am 04.Oktober ihre works in progress im Berliner Ringtheater.
Dabei soll der Raum für künstlerische sowie politische Diskussionen mit dem Publikum geöffnet werden: Womit identifizieren sich die Künstler*innen mit asiatischem Hintergrund? Welche gesellschaftliche Erfahrungen, persönliche Erinnerungen und kulturelle Traditionen fließen in ihr künstlerisches Schaffen ein? Wie beeinflusst das Leben in Deutschland die Sichtweise auf die eigene kulturelle Identität?
Das Asian Performing Artists Lab ist 2020 von der Theatermacherin Frederika Tsai und dem Choreograf Ming Poon ins Leben gerufen worden. Mit einem Bewusstsein über die Diversität und Differenzen der asiatischen Gesellschaften versucht das Lab die Sichtbarkeit von Künstler*innen mit asiatischen Hintergrund in der Öffentlichkeit zu befördern, Kooperationen zu intensivieren und Ideen für zukünftige Projekte anzuregen.

Das Berliner Ringtheater Macht Kritisch(es) Theater. Es ist ein Produktionsort, an dem gesellschaftskritische Neue Dramatik und performative Darstellungsformen zur Aufführung kommen. Seit 2017 ermöglichen wir jungen Theatermacher*innen Raum für ihre Themen, Formate und Arbeitsweisen und unterstützen sie in ihren Vorhaben durch eine heterarchische Infrastruktur.
