2012 erschloss Apparat (Sascha Ring) mit dem Theater ein neues Betätigungsfeld. Ring komponierte die Musik zu Sebastian Hartmanns Inszenierung von Tolstois „Krieg und Frieden“. Nach der Aufführung bei den renommierten Ruhrfestspielen und im Theater Leipzig wurde die Arbeit zum Berliner Theatertreffen eingeladen, was die größtmögliche Auszeichnung für eine Theaterinszenierung im deutschsprachigen Raum ist.
2013 und 2014 brach dann der Wahnsinn des zweiten Moderat Albums über Ring herein. “I've heard this tune about a thousand times. It's like a drug.” sagte Berghain DJ Marcel Dettmann über Moderats “Bad Kingdom”. "Best live show I've seen this year” schrieb ein Resident-Advisor-Autor.
Aber bei der Theaterarbeit hatte Ring Blut geleckt. An freien Tagen entwickelte er Musik für den für den Schweizer Filmpreis nominierten Film „Traumland“ und zuletzt den Score für "Il Giovane favoloso" des Italieners Mario Martone. Mit dem Film über die Dichterlegende Giacomo Leopardi gewann Ring auf dem großen Film Festival in Venedig im Sommer 2014 völlig unerwartet den Filmscorepreis Premio Piero Piccioni.
Mit seiner Musik hat Apparat eine persönliche Wahrnehmung der Welt zu einem emotionalen Gefüge von völlig ursprünglicher Schönheit verarbeitet, befand die Jury des Preises. Dann meldete sich Sebastian Hartmann wieder. Mit ihm arbeitete Ring an einer Inszenierung von Dostojewskis "Dämonen" für Deutschlands größte Theaterbühne – das traditionsreiche Schauspiel Frankfurt. Gleichzeitig komponiert er die Musik für die amerikansche Filmproduktion "EQUALS".
Im Herbst lässt Apparat den Moderat-Trubel wieder hinter sich und tourt durch Theater und intimere Konzertsäle in Europa, um dort ein an das „Krieg & Frieden“ Album anknüpfendes Programm zu spielen. Mit Band wird er sich mit den neuen Kompositionen der aktuellen und letzten Arbeiten für Film und Theater auseinandersetzen und diese live performen.
Im Sommer 2015 wird der ruhelose Musiker einige ausgewählte Festivalgigs als DJ spielen bevor er uns zu einem einzigartigen Abend das erste Mal im Admiralspalast besucht.
