Hamilton de Holanda ist der weltbeste Mandolinenspieler und wurde zunächst bekannt als kongenialer Begleiter von Jazzgrößen wie Richard Galliano und Stefano Bollani und von praktisch allen großen brasilianischen Stars (u.a. Hermeto Pascoal, Maria Bethania, Djavan, Ivan Lins und Joao Bosco), ehe er unter eigenem Namen populär wurde.
Dreimal für den Latin Grammy nominiert hat er in Brasilien alle wichtigen Musikpreise gewonnen. Er revolutionierte das Mandolinenspiel (in Brasilien: Bandolim) indem er Saiten hinzufügte; seine kraftvolle, virtuose Spielweise inspirierte eine ganze Generation jüngerer Musiker. In Amerika verpasste ihm die Presse die Beschreibung „Jimi Hendrix der Mandoline“ und in Brasilien wird Hamilton de Holanda verehrt wie ein Popstar.
Zusammen mit dem sehr populären Sambasänger Diogo Nogueira hat er nun die Band „BossaNegra“ gegründet mit der sie am 24.7.15 live im Berliner Lido gastieren.
