Der seltsame Schnittpunkt von Bewusstsein und Unterbewusstsein hat sich seit jeher in Chelsea Wolfes Arbeiten widergespiegelt. Geschah dies im Rahmen ihrer ersten vier Alben noch als eine im Untergrund lauernde Spannung, konfrontiert sie auf ihrem neuen Album "Abyss" die Grenzen von Traum und Wirklichkeit miteinander.
"Schlaf- und Traumprobleme haben mich mein gesamtes Leben verfolgt" sagt Chelsea Wolfe über den Aufnahmeprozess. Auf diese Weise ist die Vorstellung, dass ein Traum keine Zuflucht bietet, unfreiwillig zu einem Bestandteil ihrer Identität geworden. "Abyss" hält diese Dichotomie fest, diesen Kampf zwischen Ruhe und Erschütterung und zeigt, dass Chelsea Wolfe zu einer der faszinierendsten Songwriterinnen dieser Dekade geworden ist.
