Zum 90. Geburtstag von Sofia Gubaidulina, einer der bedeutendsten Komponistinnen des 20. Jahrhunderts, veranstaltet die In Situ Art Society ein 4-tägiges Festival mit ihren Werken in Bonn.
Sofia Asgatowna Gubaidulina, geboren am 24. Oktober 1931, ist eine russische Komponistin, deren Gesamtwerk mehr als hundert symphonische Werke, Kompositionen für Solisten, Chor und Orchester, Instrumentalensembles, Musik für Theater, Kino und Zeichentrickfilme umfasst.
Sie gehört zur Generation von Alfred Schnittke und Edison Denisov, und ihre unverwechselbare Musik nutzt wilde, modernistische Gesten, um eine luzide, ausdrucksstarke Welt zu schaffen.
In ihren jungen Jahren erhielt sie den Rat von Dmitri Schostakowitsch: „Ich wünsche Ihnen, dass Sie Ihren 'falschen' Weg weitergehen.“ Diese Worte ermutigten die junge Komponistin, ihrem Weg treu zu bleiben, obwohl dies auch zu diversen Schwierigkeiten führte. In der 70er Jahren wurde sie in der Sowjetunion zusammen mit sechs anderen Komponisten auf die sogenannte schwarze Liste gesetzt, weil sie „lärmenden Schlamm statt echter musikalischer Innovation“ produzierte. Nach der geistigen und politischen Wende um 1986 bekam Sofia Gubaidulina schließlich mehr Freiheit. Seit 1992 lebt die Komponistin in Deutschland, heute in der Nähe von Hamburg.
In einer tatarisch-russischen Familie geboren, hatte sie verschiedene religiöse Einflüsse. Ihr Großvater war Mullah und Sofia ließ sich mit 39 Jahren russisch-orthodox taufen. Als zutiefstspirituelle Person definiert Gubaidulina „re-ligio“ als „re-legato“ oder als Wiederherstellung der Verbindung zwischen sich selbst und dem Absoluten: „Es gibt keinen wichtigeren Grund für das Komponieren von Musik als die spirituelle Wiederherstellung“.
Sie ist Trägerin zahlreicher Titel und Auszeichnungen, darunter des Bundesverdienstkreuzes, und wurde in den Orden Pour le Mérite aufgenommen.
