Painting with wood? yes! you’ve read it right! There are many types of wood that can be veneered to make a number of beautiful pieces: chess boards, tables, furnitures or just turn them into paintings and hang them on the walls. Let your imagination go wild and learn how to design your own marquetry veneer, while gaining a new hobby!

WORKSHOP CONTENT:

In this Workshop you will learn how to create a design, glue it onto the board, and finish with wax. You can work on a free design and let your imagination go but you can also choose from several pre-made options, or even bring your own design!

You can create your piece in a variety of sizes depending on skill level, timeframe and the choice of your design. It’s a great woodworking skill and can be applied to any surface when making things in the future.

However, If you don’t feel creative and want some guidance, you can make a chess board, a simple square design that will teach you the basics on how to work with the material. (important: your design needs to consist of straight lines, during the session we will look at the design to see how to make it happen!)

The workshop is suitable for beginners as well as intermediate woodshop masters. But basically, open to anybody with a curiosity for a new material!

SESSION OVERVIEW:

In this workshop you will get familiar with different cutting tools like blade knife and cutter for wood. Designing and precisely placing all the pieces together to make a beautiful composition. You will get to know different types of veneers and get to experience their differences in behaviour. Gluing the final piece sanding it and finishing with oil

INSTRUCTOR: Lluis Mateu

Lluis Mateu, a woodworking enthusiast who has more than 25 years of experience. He has built everything from wooden houses and furniture to sets for theatre and cinema productions. He has a deep passion for the craft and loves to teach people all the tricks he’s learned throughout the years.

MATERIALS:

You need to have materials to work with, so you will get from us a kit with everything you need to get started.

You can take with you all the Veneer boards you can make. Of course it depends on how fast/good you are
