What: Video Mapping on 3D Surfaces Course

When: 19th, 26th of September and 3rd of October // from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Video mapping its a projection technique that allows to create dynamic displays out of any surface. It gives the possibility to create illusions, construct and deconstruct any physical shape.

During this Three-day intensive course, you will learn the basics of the Video Mapping technique. The course will provide an introduction to the Modul8 software, as well as the basics of MadMapper, combining the theory with assisted practical sessions. In this course, we will walk through some stages of creating a simple projection mapping project.

At the end of the workshop, all participants will have the possibility to present an installation (individually or collectively)

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

Day 1, 19th of September // 12-5pm

• Brief introduction to the Video Mapping technique
• Overview of main examples of Video Mapping projects
• Technical overview of basic requirements (resolutions, cables)
• Modul8, a dynamic live visuals software (syphon integration)
• MadMapper 2.0 introduction
• How to map a video on a simple geometrical shape using MadMapper and Modul8
• How to create a mask or object to map the video on a more complex shape, mapping on different surfaces.
• Practice session.

Day 2, 26th of September // from 12 - 5pm

• Brief of the activities of the previous day
• Multiple Outputs / projectors
• Soft edge blending
• minimad introduction
• Spacial Scanner (turn your video-projector into a 2d scanner)
• Creation of the Video Mapping installation and elaboration of the contents for it

Day 3, 3rd of October // form 12-5pm

• Brief of the activities of the previous day
• Creation of the Video Mapping installation and elaboration of the contents for it
• Practice session

REQUIREMENTS:

Intel Mac running Mac OS X 10.7 Lion (the latest version is compatible with OS X 10.10 Yosemite- OS X 10.6 Snow leopard is no longer supported)
thunderbolt, DVI or MiniDVI (to connect your computer to the beamer)

Everything else will be provided at the course. Important note: we will provide free licenses to use Modul8 and MadMapper for 30 days after the workshop. All participants are eligible for purchasing both softwares at a discounted price.

In case you have and wish, also you can bring, midi controller, projector, camera, ipad etc...
