Der Komponist, Produzent und Multiinstrumentalist Elliott Sharp leitet die Projekte Orchestra Carbon, SysOrk, Tectonics und Terraplane; seine Kompositionsstrategien hierbei umfassen fraktale Geometrie, Chaostheorie, Algorithmen, genetische Metaphern und neue Techniken der graphischen Notation, wodurch er Arbeiten erschafft, die einen synästhetischen Zugang zur Musik katalysieren und als retinale Kunst fungieren. Im Jahre 2015 wurde Sharp mit dem Berlin Prize und dem Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik ausgezeichnet. 2014 erhielt er ein Guggenheim-Stipendium und Stipendium des Center for Transformative Media. Er trat bei den Darmstädter Residenzfestspielen, dem Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Au Printemps (Paris), der Klangbiennale des Hessischen Rundfunks und der Biennale Venedig auf. Sein Buch „IrRational Music“, eine Mischung aus Erinnerungen, Kulturthemen und Musiktheorie wurde 2019 veröffentlicht und von der Kritik gelobt. Er ist Thema der Dokumentation „Doing The Don’t“; er wurde in dem Radioprogramm „All Things Considered“ des NPR präsentiert.
Sharps Komposition „Storm of the Eye“ für die Geigerin Hilary Hahn erschien auf ihrem Album „In 27 Pieces“, das mit dem Grammy ausgezeichnet wurde. Seine Oper „Filiseti Mekidesi“ wurde auf der Ruhrtriennale 2018 uraufgeführt; seine Walter-Benjamin-Oper „Port Bou“ wurde 2014 im Issue Project Room (New York) uraufgeführt und 2015 im Berliner Konzerthaus erneut gespielt. Zu seinen Soundinstallationen gehören „Foliage“, „Fluvial“, „Chromatine“ und „Tag“.
Sharp arbeitete unter anderem mit dem Qawwali-Sänger Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, dem Pianisten Cecil Taylor, dem Ensemble Modern, der Popsängerin Debbie Harry, den Blues-Legenden Hubert Sumlin und Pops Staples, den Streichquartetten Arditi, JACK und Kronos, den Jazzgrößen Jack Dejohnette und Sonny Sharrock, den Medienkünstlern Christian Marclay und Pierre Huyghe, dem Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester Frankfurt und Bachir Attar von den Master Musicians of Jajouka zusammen.
