Wir schreiben das Jahr 1919. Nur wenige Monate nach der Russischen Revolution und der gescheiterten deutschen kommunistischen Revolution von 1918/19, wurde der Leichnam der hingerichteten polnischen Revolutionärin Rosa Luxemburg kurzerhand in den Landwehrkanal im Zentrum Berlins geworfen. Ein Jahr später sprang eine Frau von der Brücke der Bendlerstraße in denselben Kanal, um ihrem Leben ein Ende zu setzen. Sie wurde gerettet und in eine psychiatrische Anstalt eingewiesen, wo sie sich weigerte, ihre Identität preiszugeben. Für kurze Zeit wurde sie daher unter dem Namen Fräulein Unbekannt geführt – bis sie eine unerwartete neue Karriere startete, in der sie behauptete, die Großherzogin Anastasia zu sein, die es irgendwie geschafft hatte, die Attentate der Russischen Revolution zu überleben.
In Ghosts of the Landwehr Canal gesellt sich zu den Geistern dieser beiden rätselhaften historischen Figuren eine Arbeiterameise, die von ihrer Kolonie getrennt wurde. Das multidisziplinäre Werk verbindet den anarchischen sprachlichen Erfindungsreichtum von Travis Jeppesen mit den Elementen Tanz, Sound und Videokunst. Unter der Leitung des taiwanesischen Theatermachers Wang Ping-Hsiang dürfen die Zuschauer:innen durch ein Berlin wandern, das in der Zeit zwischen zwei Jahrhunderten schwebt, wobei der Landwehrkanal die Trennung zwischen der Welt der Lebenden und der Toten symbolisiert, und zugleich als Grabungsstätte der Psychogeographie Berlins fungiert.
