Description

James Turrell (*1943) is an American artist primarily concerned with light and space. Since July 2015 he shows a site specific light installation at the newly renovated burial chapel of Dorotheenstädtischer cemetery in the center of Berlin.

The permanent installation is the only artwork by Turrell that is accessible to the public in Berlin, it can only be seen during sunset hours.

  • Duration: 1 hour (including 30 min introduction in English)
  • Entrance fee: 10 €, tickets are non refundable
  • Due to this year's special regulations concerning distancing and hygiene, we ask you to carefully read the following service notice. Please make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the event at the location! You need to present the following documents in order to be admited to the chapel: 1. Your ticket (printed or digital), 2. Your proof of complete Covid 19 vaccination with a vaccine approved by the European Unioin or proof of your recovery from Covid 19, 3. Your ID card
  • Inside the chapel we kindly ask you to wear a medical mask
  • Our art mediators are tested and vaccinated - therefore they don't wear a mask during the introduction
  • Visitors with flu symptoms are not allowed to enter the installation
  • The chapel opens 30 minutes prior to the event

Der Ev. Friedhofsverband Berlin Stadtmitte (EVFBS) ist Träger von 46 evangelische Friedhöfen in Berlin. Durch umfassende Aktivitäten im Gebäude- und Denkmalschutz, im Umwelt- und Klimaschutz, in der Nachbarschafts- und Gemeinwesenarbeit sowie durch die Förderung von Kunst und Kultur leistet der EVFBS, neben seiner Kernaufgabe - der Durchführung von Beisetzungen - vielfältige Beiträge zur Entwicklung einer zeitgemäßen Friedhofs- und Bestattungskultur.

  • I have not received my ticket via email. What should I do?

    The first thing to do is check your spam/junk filters and inboxes. Your tickets were sent as an attachment and can be thought of as spam by some email services.     The approval of refunds is entirely at the event organiser’s discretion, and you should get in contact with the event organiser to discuss what options are available to you.
