How do spaces we interact in resonate with how we feel, how we think? How does art open up the experiential possibilities of these interactive spaces? Through this event, you will be guided through the exploration of how Turrell's artwork has the possibility to transform our thoughts, feelings and daydreams.
Dr. Marjan Sharifi is a cognitive scientist and interdisciplinary scholar who regularly works with artists and designers. She completed her PhD in the social neuroscience department of the Max Planck Institute for Human and Cognitive Brain Sciences and then was invited to UC Berkeley as a visiting scholar in the philosophy department. Since 2017 she has been a lecturer within the Kunst und Medien department at the Berlin University of the Arts Berlin (UdK). Apart from lecturing, she also shares her multidisciplinary insights through curating exhibitions, writing articles and a forthcoming book, as well as hosting a podcast where she interviews artists and examines the art-science space with them.
James Turrell (*1943) is an American artist primarily concerned with light and space. Since July 2015 he shows a site specific light installation at the newly renovated burial chapel of Dorotheenstädtischer cemetery in the center of Berlin. The permanent installation is the only artwork by Turrell that is accessible to the public in Berlin, it can only be seen during sunset hours.

- Entrance fee: 10 €, tickets are non refundable
- Due to this year's special regulations concerning distancing and hygiene, we ask you to carefully read the following service notice. Please make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the event at the location. You need to present the following documents in order to be admited to the chapel: 1. Your ticket (printed or digital), 2. Your proof of complete Covid 19 vaccination with a vaccine approved by the European Unioin or proof of your recovery from Covid 19, 3. Your ID card
- Inside the chapel we kindly ask you to wear a medical mask
- Visitors with flu symptoms are not allowed to enter the installation
- The chapel opens 30 minutes prior to the event
