Im Oktober 2017 jährt sich der Geburtstag von Thelonious Monk zum 100. Mal.
Für die Musiker und den Jazzkeller 69 ein Grund mehr, zu Ostern 2017 wiederum das Gesamtwerk zu präsentieren.
Seit der Premiere dieses Mammutprojektes im Oktober 1996 im Jazzkeller Treptow, wird nur bei uns, die Langform aufgeführt! Baukastenarbeit und Collage, Methoden, die bei Monk bereits angelegt sind, werden genutzt, um aufgeteilt auf drei Abende, abwechslungsreiche und spannende Konzerte zu gestalten. Zur Strategie der Gesamtdramaturgie gehören die Überraschung und die Irritation.
Doch der Zu-Fall folgt der Logik des spielerischen Umgangs mit dem Material. Die Ent-Täuschung erweist sich als eine unkonventionelle Sicht auf Monk, ein „Konzept“ ohne Methodenzwang.
Schließlich hat Monk selbst seine Kompositionen in unterschiedlichen Versionen gespielt, einige von ihnen abgeändert bzw. reharmonisiert.
