Die Idee für das Stück entstand aus der Begegnung mit der Performerin Christina Lederhaas, die aber für berliner Aufführung durch Vera Hagemman ersetzt wird.
NOT FAR ist in diesem Sinne eine echte Ko-Kreation. Hagemanns Performance zeichnet sich durch hohe Konzentration, und Reduktion aus: sie arbeitet mit ganz wenigen Elementen, die auf verschiedene Art und Weise variiert werden. Dadurch entsteht eine besondere und sehr intensive Körperdynamik die auf differenzierten Wiederholungen basiert. Der andere wichtige Bestandteil sind ihre fast hypnotisierenden Blicke: damit konzentriert sie sich auf einen bestimmten Punkt (meistens die Augen von einem/einer ZuschauerIn), und versucht mit ihm/ihr zu kommunizieren und Informationen über sich und derzeitige Aktionen an die ZuschauerInnen zu übermittlen.
Der Inhalt dieser Informationen ist von sekundärer Bedeutung – die Qualität des Übermittelns und dessen emotionale Spannung steht im Vordergrund. Auf dieser Basis baue ich meine Komposition auf: ich arbeite mit „crippled Beats“ die auf einer unregelmäßigen rhythmischen Basis aufgebaut sind und dennoch ein Gefühl von kontinuierlichem „flow“ bzw. Groove ergeben. Die Körperperformance bildet einen eigenen Groove, und so schaffen Musik und Szene als Hauptkomponenten des Stücks zueinander ein produktives Spannungsverhältnis – sie diskutieren, haben verschiedene Meinungen, jedoch vielleicht (?) am Ende die gleichen Ziele.
