Manuel Pessoa de Lima kam aus Brasilien nach Berlin, um in der experimentellen Musikszene auszubrechen. Es dauerte nicht lange, bis ihm klar wurde, dass er nicht in der Lage sein würde, von seiner Kunst zu leben. Glücklicherweise wurde er von einem Friseur in Prenzlauer Berg engagiert, der in seinem Salon Live-Klaviermusik verwendet. Manuel wurde gebeten, "leichte und entspannende" Klaviermusik zu spielen, und beschloss, sein neues Album Friseur zu komponieren, auf dem er seine neuen Kompositionen spielt, die mit einem Karaoke-ähnlichen Backtrack synchronisiert sind.
Manuel Pessoa de Lima ist ein brasilianischer Komponist. Er arbeitet mit der Farbe Rot, interessiert sich für das Thema Versagen und schafft ortsspezifische Performances mit konfessionellen Elementen. Derzeit in Berlin ansässig, entwickelt er Solo-Performances mit Sprache, Ton, Video und Rotlicht. Darin benutzt Lima häufig Ironie, um den Begriff der Hochkultur und den Habitus des traditionellen Konzertumfelds zu destabilisieren. Die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Scheitern vertiefte er in seinem jüngsten Soloprojekt The Failed Pianist, das beim Send-Receive Festival (Kanada) und in beim Sommerfest der Akademie Schloss Solitude präsentiert wurde.
Zuletzt wurde seine Arbeit "36 English to Portuguese Lessons" auf der digitalen Plattform von Cafe Oto (London) veröffentlicht und sein letztes Album "Realejo" (Orgel, Pfeifen und Elektronik) erscheint 2020 beim experimentellen Musiklabel Black Truffle. Er promovierte im Performer-Composer-Programm von California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).

Manuel Pessoa de Lima arrived in Berlin from Brazil with a sole plan in mind: to break out in the experimental music scene. It didn't take too long for him to realize he wouldn't be able to make a living from his art. Luckily, he was hired by a hairdresser in Prenzlauer Berg who uses live piano music in his saloon. Requested to play light and relaxing piano music, Manuel decided to compose his new album Friseur, where he plays his new compositions synced with a karaoke-like backtrack.
